G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #262
Summary:
Destro and the Baroness are unsuccessful in their attempt to take out Revanche’s Alpha 001 Prime. They get zapped in the neck by cables and become drones of Revanche.
At the Pit, Sightline is enjoying his enhanced bionic leg. Another team of Joes is run through the “Holo-deck”, err, “Holographic Simulation Chamber”. Over at Staten Island, Scarlett notices something weird about a seemingly random gull, as it turns out to be a surveillance drone for Cobra.
In San Francisco, Milo meets a kid named Roland. In turn, they encounter an “advanced age” martial artist of some sort, who understands that violence is not always necessary.
In an interlude in New York’s East Village restartant, Demon Granny, Dawn Moreno, Jinx and Helix meet a vet named “Leonard”. They instantly bond over their appreciation of British poet Wilfred Owen.
Finally, in Springfield, Cobra Commander and Dr. Mindbender banter over a game of golf. Cobra Commander claims he has a direct line to Sightline’s leg. They get news of the drone at Staten Island and CC is furious when he sees Throwdown and assumes that Snake-Eyes is “alive”.
Notes
- This is one of those “inventory” issues; or yet another “getting from one point to another”.
- It’s been awhile, but for once Scarlett actually uses her throwing stars, as she takes out the Cobra gull drone.
- Weird inconsistency with the VAMP. In its first panel, it appears to have the original machine gun thingie… yet in all other panels it has the four missile rack of the VAMP Mark II.
- The mysterious oldster in San Francisco says he runs a school where he teaches “calligraphy, tea ceremony and other things”.
- Okay, I’m not a Star Trek fan in the least…but i’m also not “‘too cool to pretend I don’t know about Star Trek”. So it seems pretty obvious to me, with the holo-deck and the Revanche “Borgs”, that this seems to be borrowing heavily from 80’s Star Trek episodes.
- Sightline’s bionic leg makes him a little bit like the 70’s G.I. Joe Adventure Team’s “Mike Power, Atomic Man”. I wonder if that was intentional?
- There’s a 4th Joe with Mongoose, Joystick and Muskrat going through the holographic training. He’s not identified, but I’ll go with “Torpedo”, for now.
- Next month is slated to be a flashback issue, dealing with the Joes who have fallen (“died”) over the years. I’m curious if it was originally scheduled to ship THIS month (May), to coincide with Memorial Day.

So weird that Clutch – the team’s mechanic – passes over the V.A.M.P. to Scarlett and Snake-Eyes for an oil change, lol. And not to nitpick but “The V.A.M.P. seems to be running a bit hot Stalker. I suspect it needs an oil and filter change.” just doesn’t sound like Clutch-like dialogue at all.
