G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #194

Writer: Larry Hama
Penciler: S.L. Gallant

Summary:

Spurred by a viral video of the terrorist incdient, the Jugglers agree to send the Joe team into action in Sierra Gordo. In the video, Robert Graves (Grunt) was able to send a morse code message to the Joes by blinking his eyes. The initial “Alpha” team jumps into Sierra Gordo to begin their mission.

In Lauhar, Olliestan, Pale Peony and Jinx face-off with their opponent. He turns out to be a Blue Ninja-type of cyborg. The two then find documentation between Revanche Robotics and Cobra– Cobra intends to upgrade all their BATs with Blue Ninja technology.

Notes:

  •
  • While unconscious from being pistol-whipped, Grunt has a dream about dropping into Sierra Gordo from way back in issue 13.

  • The deceased Doc is mentioned, as well, by both Grunt and the approaching Joe team. Seems kinda’ random. Unless this is Hama saying: “yeah, I forgot that Sneak-Peek was dead, but I remembered that Doc is dead!!”

  • Junkyard jumps with Mutt, which reminds me of the cartoon episode “Creatures of Cobra”, where Junkyard getting qualified for a parachute drop was a minor point.

  • A news team gets some quick footage of the NABM guys meeting with Haydn Strawhacker. Chuckles claims to know who they are.

  • A somewhat smaller cast when compared to last issue. The charcters also have that silly comic habit of using each other’s name to help us ID everyone.

  • Pale Peony and Jinx notice that the cyborgs all have large “platform shoes”, with thick foot soles. It plays into the plot and seems to be an identifying element, now.
