G.I. Joe Special Missions #11
Special Missions #11- “Sheep’s Clothing”
Writer: Larry Hama
Penciler: Herb Trimpe
Summary
The Joes diffuse a tricky hostage situation at the American PX in Frankfurt, Germany. Scarlett, Lady Jaye and Jinx, disguised as nurses, are swapped out for hostages. After a chase to the Frankfurt aiport, with a half-track and a trolley car, the Joes successfully take out the terrorists and their skyjacking compatriots.
Notes:
- This was the somewhat-requested “spotlight on the women” issue that some fans had been clamoring for.
- Another example of the difference between modern comics and older comics. Scarlett is a hostage in a nurse’s outfit and is handcuffed in the cab of a half-track with an EVIL terrorist. Nothing cheescake-ish about it, but if Devil’s Due had published this story, they’d have full-page “spank bank” shots of Scarlett in a short nurse’s skirt, shirt unzipped a bit and leaning back in handcuffs.
- It is a little creepy, though…since the terrorist in the cab says that being alone with Scarlett is “romantic”.
- Chuckles is the field leader of this mission, as he seems to be taking the spotlight in “Special Missions”, quite frequently.
- First time Jinx has officially appeared as a full-fledged Joe operative and mixing with other team members. She’d been exclusively associating with Storm Shadow’s little crew since her debut.
